House Finch and Golden Finches

I was sitting on the deck watching the birds feed. I like the combination of the golden finch along with the house finch. The males are so colorful. The other is a femail golden finch. The poor thing has hardly any color as nature wants to protect her. Catching all three of them almost still was a bonus.

The photo was taken with the Canon 300L + 1.4 extender hand held.

A Dandelion

I kept a yellow dandelion, for I liked to watch it grow.
And I could never understand Why people hate them so!
I cared for my dandelion until he was old and gray.
Along came a puff of wind And blew his hair away.

Today the word of the day was clouds. Yesterday there wasn't a cloud in the sky so I was happy to see them this morning. This is an HDR photo. I was happy to have the flowers in the foreground and the barn in the mid ground, making for a good depth of field feeling.

Meet Ernie

This Ernie, our handyman. He was working in the garden today and standing in the sun so this is full of harsh light accentuating his very interestingly lined face. He smiles a lot.

The word of the day was expression.

Each summer in Grants Pass there is an art theme.
This year it is painted doors. The doors are from an old motel
They depict various areas of Oregon
You can also see the bakets of flowers and the American flags hanging on the same poles

This is the most famous place in the little town of Glendale

Will I ever be a Butterfly?

I recently acquired the Canon 24-105L lens. I am really enjoying shooting with this lens. This was shot with the lens plus the Canon 500D close-up lens.

I love this pretty daisy which is considered a noxious weed here in Oregon. I fill vases with them in the summertime.

The Robin

I have long tried to capture a photo of a robin. They are so shy and elusive. Yesterday I got lucky and was able to get two shots.

African Girl

I wanted to try painting dark skin and eyes. The hair was a challenge also. The background may be a little to loud so I have taken her back to the drawing board. The second version is shown at the top. After some excellent feedback, I realize that the problem is that the background should have warm tones rather than cool ones. So I will be adding that version to this page.
