Fisheye Barn

I got a new fisheye lens. This is the first image using the lens. It is a manual lens and I need to practice more with it.

Another Painter Talk Challenge. Painted with PainterX. He had a sunburn and that explains the red face.

There is exciting news from Corel. Painter 11 released February 25. I am looking forward to ordering the new version when the boxed version is out on March 18.

Boy in the Plaid Hat

It has been a while since I did a painting but I was inspired today after attending a Painter Talk meeting on Go to Meeting.

There was an excitement in the Painter community as we found out today that Painter 11 will be announced tomorrow.

The Road to Gold Ray Dam

This is the single lane dirt road to the dam. At this point the road has widened considerably.

Upon further study, I find that there is a possibility that the dam will be removed in the next few years. There is an ongoing study of the silt that is held behind the 100+ year old dam. The silt could be many things including quite a bit of gold dust since this area was full of gold mines. If they find anything that could cause problems to the river, they will improve the fish ladder rather than removing the dam.If removed this will be the third dam removed from the Rogue River for the passage of spawning salmon.

Hummers in the Snow

Poor little birds, it must be so cold for them. I am sure they were as surprised as we were with the late spring snow.

A Roll in the Hay

I am interested in why farmer have changed the shape of the bales of hay. It seems to me that the old rectangular bales would be much easier to store and take up less room. Nevertheless, the round bales do make for a nice photo.

Last Saturday we went to Jacksonville, OR to watch the Chinese New Year Parade. It was very colorful and a wonderful photo opportunity. Here is one of the paraders.

We met this charming lady by chance. After a delightful conversation I asked to take her photo. She came to this country as a War Bride after WWII. She was so cute and petite with a still heavy Japanese accent.

The River Runs Through

Went on a road trip on Sunday with a friend. We traveled about 250 miles. This is one of the scenes we came upon. The river is the Umpqua in Southwestern Oregon.

Faraway Eagle

I saw 3 eagles in Eugene yesterday. I tried very hard to get a closeup of one of them. Alas, there was a fence between me and the trees where they were sitting so this was the closest I could get. Double click on the photo for a larger view.

A Sad Thing

We had a 3 story house in our neighborhood burn to the ground because of a flue fire. It is the second one on our road in less than a year. Folks with old houses should be sure to have their chimneys lined with a steel liner. What a sad thing to loose your home and all your belongings.
