Pink Dogwood

This beautiful pink dogwood was spotted in Riverside Park yesterday. The wind was blowing so I was afraid I couldn't capture the beautiful blossoms. I set the camera on TV and with a speed of 1000 and was able to stop the motion.

False Color IR

This is known as false color IR because with the help of Photoshop you can make the sky blue rather than the normal black.

Lake Selmac in Infrared

It was a beautiful spring day so it was time to bring out the Infrared camera.

Can you find the fisherman?

This is kind of quirky but I got a kick out of the reflection.

Two Koi

Another homework assignment in the Sumi-e painting class.

The Chinese like to view fish in ponds from above, not through the side of a bowl. That is why you usually see them painted from above.

Koi live a very long time. The oldest on record was 226 years old.

They are often passed down from one generation to another.

One more Asian Watercolor

This little lucky bamboo sits on my kitchen window sill over the sink. I enjoy it every day so I thought I would paint it. Corel Painter 11 using watercolor brushes.

Pear Blossom Time in Oregon

First image shot with the Canon 7D.
It was a rainy, windy day so it was hard to try to take a decent photo with the weather conditions.
I think it did ok though considering the circumstances. A good size learning curve comes with this camera.

Sumi-e Bamboo

Bamboo is strong. It bends with the wind and rain but never breaks. In China it is the symbol of longevity while in India it is the symbol of friendship.

Painted in Corel Painter using the wonderful brushes created by Skip Allen and David Gell.
Many thanks for the great sumi-e brushes.

Cherry Blossom Time

More Sumi-e painting in Corel Painter.

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Sumi-e is a style of painting that is characteristically Asian, and has been practiced for well over a thousand years. Literally ink painting, it is an art form that strives to distill the essence of an object or scene in the fewest possible strokes.

Painted digitally with Corel Painter.
